Representative Sam Farr Leads a Salinas Town Hall Meeting
Town hall meetings on the issue of health care delivery reform have been animated and contentious across the country, and the August 31st town hall meeting in Salinas, California led by Congressman Sam Farr was no different. Several hundred people were in attendance at the meeting, and as has been the pattern across the country, a boisterous opposition to health reform was present to which staunch health reform advocates felt compelled to respond leaving the majority of attendees to wait quietly between rounds of applause, hisses, boos and cheers of support. Those who wished to make public comments stood in two lines, one with health care supporters and one with those in opposition with both lines stretching from the top to the bottom of the Sherwood Hall.
There is no doubt that the delivery of health care in the U.S. is currently following an unsustainable model. Health insurance alone approaches 20% of U.S. gross domestic product accounting for a trillions of dollars drain on our economy. That’s just the cost of insurance without any actual health care service given. Just imagine if those trillions of dollars were to be actually spent on health care as opposed to health insurance. The U.S. would have a stronger, healthier population, and a stronger more secure economy!
