It’s been called the Swine Flu, the H1N1 flu virus and the Pandemic Flu, but by whichever name it is called, the Pandemic Flu is of concern to North County residents and beyond. But rumors and uncertainties have been prevalent in regard to what actions people can take to protect themselves and their loved ones. That’s why long time North County resident and community activist Ed Mitchell hosted a presentation by Monterey County Health Department Director Hugh Stallworth.
Doctor Hugh Stallworth has had years of experience as a private practitioner in addition to his long and distinguished career as a public health officer. During his career his writings have been published on numerous occasions and Doctor Stallworth is the author of the book “Partnerships in Public Health: Creating alliances using the business paradigm.” Doctor Stallworth is currently the Health Officer and Medical Director for the Monterey County Department of Health in Salinas California. Doctor Stallworth characterizes this year’s pending flu season as “the worst we have ever seen.”
Beyond advising people on non-pharmaceutical ways in which people can stop the spread of the flu virus, Doctor Stallworth dispels rumors and misconceptions regarding the Pandemic Flu vaccine and he responds to questions from the attending audience.
